Travel Plans – Update (2)

Another quick update on our upcoming adventure.

  1. Friedi and I are now booked on an 8 day Galapagos cruise from the 3rd until the 10th of February! This is the 2nd of the two trips (Inca trail was the other) that we needed to pre book, so it is a great feeling to have it all organised! We will be taking the Samba boat (our original preference is under going repairs). I won’t bore you with all the details on the Galapagos (see here) other than to mention Lonesome George! The aptly named giant tortoise is the last of his species (or thought to be), so when he dies, so does the Geochelone abingdoni. There is a $10,000 reward for anyone who can find him a mate, but so far the search has proved fruitless…
  2. I have put together a google map of our planned trip (see it here).
  3. The collapse of the pound has come at an unfortunate time! At the moment it has increased the cost of the whole trip by about 25%!! It hasn’t diminished my excitement though.
  4. And finally… the hunt to find people to move into the flat is underway. Things are starting to feel more and more real now!

You’re going to New Zealand? Wait I live in New Zealand…

    *Rushes to setup sofa bed*

Realizes he has no sofa bed

    *Rushes to buy sofa bed*

    Realizes there is no rush.

When you see it on a map its pretty scary, those huge distances and that big final leg to come here. The distance that two people would move on a bit of a whim, because there is two other people they know there, at the end of that whim. We did the same thing, picking Auckland essentially because it was the only spot in the whole southern hemisphere where we knew anyone, and we want to live somewhere new, but when you see it like that on a map, its sheer madness.

Still madness aside, looking forward to having you here old buddy.
